National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP)

In 1968 Congress passed the National Flood Insurance Act, which created the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)

Lands that are at risk of being flooded are called Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHA) and are subject to special flood hazard insurance. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has implemented procedures for requesting revisions to NFIP maps.
